Aviator90 Episode 45

Chris Palmer: [0:01] Hello there, fellow aviator and welcome to another episode,
the last episode of Aviator 90 from Angle of Attack. I’m Chris
Palmer and today I’m en route at 15, 000 feet just south of the
Grand Canyon in Arizona in the United States.
[0:22] On this last episode I just wanted to come here and give
some special things to you for sticking around for Aviator 90. It’s
been a blast being able to teach you and to learn from you as well
because you’ve brought up a lot of great stuff throughout the
course that has taught me quite a bit, things that I didn’t know.

[0:50] It’s certainly a pleasure of mine to have trained you, and I
really appreciate that experience. And I think that you probably
enjoyed it as well. It’s been a great ride, but with that said, it
is not over yet. Now that Aviator 90 is done and we’ve gone through
that entire course, there is a lot more to be learned and mainly
the biggest thing is instrument stuff, so flying in the clouds
which I’m actually doing right now. So, you’ll hear about that in a
few minutes a little more.

[1:33] There’s lot to learn from instrument flying. It’s the most
enjoyable type. It’s the most beautiful, but it’s also the most
challenging. It’s going to take a lot more lessons than what we did
in Aviator 90. It’s really a professional type of course.
Instrument flying is very difficult, at the same time very
rewarding. I love instrument flying. It’s my favorite, and you’ll
notice here in a second we’re going to go dark in a cloud, maybe,
get a little of the… and yeah, it’s getting darker and we’re back
out.

[2:19] I just love instrument flying. I just love to teach you guys
what I know. I am very confident with instrument flying. I think
that that’s important. It’s a matter of safety to be comfortable
with what you’re doing. So, that’s what’s next. Now that you’ve
come to the end of Aviator 90 and you’ve had a great time. You’ve
learned a lot. A lot of new things have come up for you in your
training. I want to take it to a whole new level and add even more
realism, too that you can add to your sim.

[2:53] I believe that this is perhaps the best thing you can do for
your simulator. We all go out and we spend thousands of dollars on
great hardware, and we’ll even drop $600 or something on a video
card. It’s crazy stuff like that when something like Aviator Pro
can increase your realism for all types of flying, all your
aircraft, all your flights, everything. It’s not just another add-
on. It’s something that you can really enjoy and it continues to
pay back time and time again.

[3:39] Not only that just in line with what we’ve done with the
Aviator 90, I’m going to get feedback from you guys along the way.
And we will build the content around what you need. We’ll keep it
fresh. We’ll keep it new and challenging. That is pretty much it.
So, I am going to show you some cool cloud formations here and,
maybe, talk for a few more seconds. Let’s look at this and talk for
a few more seconds here. Adjust the brightness here. How cool is
that? What a beautiful day to fly.

[4:30] The funnest part about instrument flying would be the
approaches, and that’s challenging because it takes a lot of
precision, a lot of work and a lot of skill. That is one thing that
I will certainly teach you in Aviator Pro. Anyway, this is the type
of thing that you learn to fly with Aviator Prod, and it’ll be a
great experience for all of us.

[4:52] That’s it for me. I’m not going to show my face again unless
it gets out of focus. That’s it and that is it for Aviator 90. It’s
been a blast. Let’s keep having fun, and let’s do Aviator Pro.
Until next time on Aviator Pro, throttle on.

Chirs like you said is been a blast and a pleasure to be all the away through Aviator90. I learn need thing that i didn’t know and i know i will keep learning on Aviator Pro. I like IFR too but still problem with problem on approach but i know i will learn more about it.

    Thx for eveything.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

Well IFR is the right place for you, Angel! I got your account setup and you are one of the first to be enrolled in AviatorPro! Thanks a ton for being here.

  • Paul Bellmann

Well done Chris ! Thanks for sharing your Aviator90 program and for reinvigorating my own personal GA Flight Sim experiences. I haven’t touched my ‘heavies’ for months. Now my experience is even richer for your series. All my flight planning is now done via FlightAware and RunwayFinder in a new level of depth and appreciation. The series helped spur my imagination into areas I haven’t yet capitalized to full potential. I’ve even started to retrofit and modify my own GA aircraft. Presently I am flying my own unique Beech Kingair 350 with a fresh repaint, RealityXP weather radar, RealityXP GNS530 WAAS GPS , Jetline2 Avionics and a fresh set of Turbine sounds. Route KAST-KSEA. Now, I know you didn’t teach all this….but more importantly the Aviator90 series gave me the enthusiasm to push my previous boundaries. So Thanks Chris for your efforts and own enthusiastic approach!
    cheers Paul.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

      Paul,
I has truly been a pleasure to have you around. I really appreciate your in depth questions and your willingness to assist me in teaching others. Your comments and sharing of YOUR knowledge has not gone unnoticed, so please accept my deepest appreciation for that.

You said a couple things there that really touched my heart, and that makes me really excited for what’s next!

  • Maxim Ramsteijn

Chris, I really enjoyed Aviator 90 and learned a lot of new stuff! I just like the way you teach and love the way you make your lessons! I’m definitly going to try out Aviator Pro, I’m curious to see what’s IFR like! But all I want to say is: Thank you!!!

    Maxim Ramsteijn, from Holland

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

      Maxim,
You are so very welcome. As I said, IFR is very enjoyable but it is also challenging. I hope to carry on the teaching methods and the ‘fun’ we had in Aviator90 to teach great things in AviatorPro as well.

It’s great to know Aviator90 is loved in Holland!

  • http://ehangar.net Timothy

Hey Chris! Thanks for all the work you put into this!! It was great!!! I really loved the tips you gave us (skyvector.com, VatSim – although I can’t figure it out yet :/ ), they really helped to make my flying more realistic and way more fun! Too bad it’s all over! But, I guess Avpro will top the cake :) .

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

HAHA! AviatorPro will be a whole different and huge cake!

There is still SO much to learn and I’m excited to take on the new challenge. It’s been a marathon I haven’t regretted for a second. It’s been a blast and a pleasure.

      Thanks, Timothy!

    Chris,

Maybe my personal thanks will get lost among the many many you are getting and are still going to, but I wanted to say it anyway. Aviator 90 was great. Thank you for all the hard work you put into it, for all the tips and training, stories and philosophy. I’m definitely a better -and more confident – virtual pilot from it.

    Throttle on!

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

      Andrew,
Your thanks will never get lost here. If there’s anything I want to NEVER lose at AOA it is keeping in touch with the people that make the ‘engine’ turn. People just like you.

I really appreciate all the comments you’ve left, the questions you’ve asked and so on. That has not gone unnoticed either!

Keep on learning! It’s the only way to be a true Aviator.

      Daniel,
I’m honored. I’ve been looking for a way to truly train virtual pilots, and I think we’re on the right track, wouldn’t you say?

Thank you for all the many comments you’ve shared and the praise you’ve given along the way. It’s REALLY helped keep me going on those days where I wanted to do anything but work.

That sounds lazy, but it’s been a heck of a marathon! A video every other day?! I mean, come on!

With that said, it’s been the MOST enjoyable time I’ve ever had here at Angle of Attack.

And I can’t wait for more.

    Chris,

I just wanted to say thank you so much for Aviator 90! I learned so much, which was made so much easier being you are a great teacher! My VFR technique when flying on Vatsim has changed with each and every lesson you’ve teached. I could hardly wait for every other day to arrive so that I could watch your newest episode release. It was the highlight of my lunch break! I know I speak for all of us in the FS community by taking my hat off to you and saying Thank You for devoting your time in creating a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere for which to learn.

Onwards to Aviator Pro! Throttle on!

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

YAY! It’s an honor to be your flight instructor ;)

Thanks for the great compliments, especially the one about following through. Of course that starts with just saying I will and getting it done (the kind of person I am) but it doesn’t mean it was easy!

It was a great time and I’m looking forward to soldiering on!

  • http://iblueyonder.wordpress.com Bill Womack

Congratulations on bringing Aviator 90 in for a successful landing, Chris! It was a highly enjoyable series, and one that I’m sure I’ll return to time and again to refresh my knowledge. I’m looking forward to Aviator Pro as well, as I’ve never done much instrument training. It sounds challenging, but highly rewarding.

    Excellent work.

    Hey Chris,

Thanks for the course, it has been truly valuable to me. I still have some videos to look at (particularly the ones where you talk about VOR navigation), but I have already learned a lot about flying in general and I’m sure AviatorPro will be as great as Aviator90, and most probably even better.

    Regards,
    Benjamin van Soldt

      Thanks Ben!
I’m really excited for AviatorPro. It’s great to get into this instrument stuff because I am very passionate about it.

  • Charles Earl

Thanks for this series Chris. Really. The series has sincerely helped keep the aviation flame burning in me while still earthbound in real life waiting for my budget to one day allow me to persue a license. I am going to use this series and this site as a gateway drug for others considering aviation simulation. Or even for those that have not considered it but love planes and hang around at small airports dreaming of one day getting a license. Many people don’t get the point of simulation. But this site and it’s content will help them understand the depth of what the sim was designed to do and all it has to offer. It also demonstrates how easy is it to get started. Something the sim on it’s own has trouble conveying. Sites like this and scenery like Tongass and PNW from FTX to planes from the likes of Real Air and Carenado and so on. Wow. Throw in the prospect of booting around on VATSIM and learning correct VFR and IFR proceedures and radios. The whole thing equates to a gateway drug to real aviation and it’s community and sim community (which are becomming quite blended). As a prep course for reality. It narrows the gap and makes the step into real aviation smaller for those that want to take that step one day. As a result of this series, I gained the confidance to get onto VATSIM and realising once there with my new knowledge, that I could easily hold my own on line with the rest. Since then, the fun factor just keeps growing. Thanks for that.

Keep up the great work! You are an asset to the hobby and the community of Aviation Enthusiasts at large.

    Thanks.

    Charles.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

      Charles,
For some reason I didn’t see this post until now! You know that I try and respond to everyone, and this one is no less deserving than others. So, sorry about that!

      But…

Thank you! Wow, what can I say. I think I just had all the marketing for AOA lifted off my shoulders with what you just said. If someone asks what it is I do or why AOA is best for flight sim training, I’ll just show them this ;)

In all seriousness, I really appreciate it. Thank you for being around and being involved in the series. You are one of the first of many to pass through these virtual flight school doors and take part in this training.

Thank you for continuing to share it with others and share your thoughts with us. It’s a great pleasure.

      Throttle On my Friend.

    Seems to be deleted :(

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

      Try now. It’s all fixed.

  • Andy

    Big Thx Chris

  • Adam

Just a question. What program do you use for video editing? Your not only a great flight simmer but you have some great skills in editing your footage together.

Anyways thanks for the video’s, Adam

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com/ Chris Palmer

Thanks, Adam! I don’t think most people notice that. ;) Much appreciated.

I use mostly Adobe products like Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Soundbooth and so on that are wrapped into something called ‘Production Premium’.

I’m looking into getting a Mac Pro and using Final Cut in the future, or at least getting the Mac version of Production Premium.

  • yener

Hi Chris, I would like you to know that there are people who have a very special places in other people’s lives such as a teacher or a colluage or something like that and you are like one of them for me… because you learned me a lot of things which are highly value to me. that is why, I would like to thank you for everything you made for us, fs learners or maybe even tomorrow’s pilot candidates , and made us more and more ambitious at simming… I would like to say that I am definitely keep on being a follower of your videos in aviator pro and in others as well.

Wow, I envy you that view! :)

That’s it! I’ve been through all episodes of Aviator90 in a few days! And I loved it! :) Now I’m gonna repeat some of it and actually fly some of the lessons myself. I just wanted to watch it all first. I’ve been on and off the simulator over the years, but now i’m really inspired. I feel I have learned more the last days than the last year. I’m lookin forward to test Aviator Pro and learn even more. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Dale J F

I have had flight simulator for quite a while now and aviator 90 has taken the experience to a whole new level. Aviator 90 has cemented the foundations, now to build onto it with aviator pro.

    thanks Chris, Great job.

  • Mike Ross Kuett

Awesome stuff!!! I am still with the Aviator 90 Lessons and must say that there is so much new and interesting stuff to learn. I have been simming for around 10 years now. Always love to keep it as real as it gets, but Aviator 90 is bringing in even more realism to proffessional flying. Thank you so much for that.

    Awesome work, Chris!!!

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

I’m glad you’ve made it this far! Like a true aviator ;)
