Nick is back with another PMDG 737NGX video, this one weighing in under 50 minutes in length. Everyone here is starting to wonder if it would be possible for Nick to make anything that isn’t almost an hour long, but that’s besides the point.

In this video Nick goes through a quick and dirty initial setup of the aircraft to get it ready for departure. This is by no means how we teach this setup in our actual video training product, but it does give you a lot of nice little bits of knowledge.

Nick later goes through a raw data takeoff, and eventually climbs up and goes through a pretty awesome explanation of the Yaw Damper system on the 737. Yaw damper? Awesome? Yes. It’s very interesting what’s being showed here!

This disclaimer is worth taking a look at:

  • This video does not reflect the standard of our final training product. It is rough, and my informal, off the cuff explanations may at times be inaccurate.
  • Our final product is meticulously scripted and structured so as to provide the best learning experience.
  • This video was intended solely to put across my initial thoughts and a quick look at the incredible depth to which PMDG have simulated the 737NG.

What are your thoughts on this video? Did you enjoy the takeoff? And what about the yaw damper explanation?

Well I have just watched all of Nick’s videos tonight. They certainly have created a burning lust in my heart for this plane and your training. I have your 767 and 747 training courses and aviator pro. Everything you do is top notch and I think your training will match the superlatives of this simulation!! Thanks for all your hard work, they are a pleasure to use and learn from!

Thank you so much for the video Nick. You don’t know how much I look forward to each one.
This takeoff video was really special.
Of course it goes without saying that as soon as AoA puts up the NGX program, I’ll be signing up.

Great vidz Nick. I think I’m looking more forward AOA’s training than the actual bird (shhh).

Whooooooa! That’s a pretty big claim right there!

Hi Nick, just as Mike i’m also very interested in your settings for TrackIr and Ezdok, as well as your FSX and REX setting not to mention of your tweaks.
Further more i’d like to comment on the video wich was great and excellent explaining of the YAW damper….however it may be a bit nicer for the non English speaking users that you will use subtitles or something.
    Keep up the good work!
    best regards
    Ray

We’ve had a lot of requests for subtitles. We are paying attention ;)

Thank you for taking the time to put out this and all of your other videos. I enjoyed them immensely and learned something from each one. I look forward to the actual training videos – when do you expect them to be released?

You should be getting news about pricing and availability within 48 hours.

Great video as always Nick. Your Blue Screening problem can be caused by a number of things. Please give me a shout and I will tell you how to fix it in just a few minutes.

Thanks for the assistance. He may take you up on that, but he’s pretty advanced in this stuff as well. Are you an IT Professional?

  • Will WIlson

Great videos! Thanks for doing these. What is the Gatwick you use? I fly around there often.

It’s from UK2000. We’re a huge supporter of those guys. They make top notch sceneries!

      • Andystrat1965

UK2000 do a lot of UK Airports and in great detail. I found these to be better than Aerosoft’s Mega Heathrow which killed your frames to about 7fps :)

Yet again another first class video Nick. Please get in touch and I will fix your blue screen problems for you. Cheers.

  • Andystrat1965

I think these videos are brilliant, not forgetting they are free and also made in the valuable spare time that Nick has.
Come on guys, if you can do better go for it, but if not at least learn from them and remember these are just an insight, you get far more information on the paid training guides.

Nick, it sounded like you were using a hardware device of some sort to tune in the radios; I could hear a dial clicking. I would be interested to know if you have an add on for this.

Great video again Nick. You’ve clearly got a lot of knowledge to share too. Just wondering if you ever considered switching to YouTube instead as I can’t seem to jump ahead on these videos (if its not all downloaded), and I don’t always have 50 odd minutes to view it in one sitting.

Do you think the FPS in the NGX is better than in the IFLY? I have the IFLY now, and the FPS in the cockpit isn’t very good (on my computer at least…) I’m hoping I can fly the NGX pretty nicely :)

  • Andrewsayer13

    Very nice!
I’m trying to recall if you used flaps 5 however. On the longer bodied 737′s, Boeing recommends the use of higher flaps settings, especially at light weights, due to tail clearance issues. Straight out of the FCTM: “Flaps 1 and 5 (800/900/900ER) takeoffs have the least clearance. Consider using a larger flap setting for takeoffs at light gross weights.” Thought it was worth mentioning.

Your Blue Screen Error may likely be leaning to a memory problem. Most blue screen errors are. A change in hardware may also be an issue. Hardware drivers are also something to take into consideration. Always take down the message given in the error as quick as u can. Google it and you’ll know where to go from there.
As for the video itself, fantastic. I’m looking forward to getting this product and staying with PMDG and AOA for a very very long time. After all these years… I’m where I belong. This is home…

  • Titanicsimon

I’d be keen to know what software Nick uses to enable such wonderful exterior fly-arounds as seen in the last few seconds of this video. Is it an add on?

Yes, we reverted it back. Works now.

What a fantastic amount of work you have done to get such a superb model. I am really looking forward to the 777 as I am a simulator instructor for Boeing on the 777-300ER. Great work, and the videos are tops!

777 is still my favorite, with the 787 slowly creeping up behind. Just love the 777.

Really can’t wait for this NGX training to be released. I have the boxed version 747 training & the DLC MD11 training, and they are brilliant. Nick, for an unscripted video you did a grand job. Alot better than most people can do, especially the rude & arrogant twats that have nothing better to do than complain about someone else’s time, effort & dedication that they give to the FS community.

  • The Daviator

That was awesome. Thanks Nick. The spontaneity of the training (non-training) was impressive. It was actually quite interesting to see you casually work through the take off without a planned script. The yaw damper bit was amazing. I never heard it described so effectively. AOA rocks!

  • Bionic

Nick: I noticed you don’t like using the APP mode for takeoff. But it is used in some SOP for two reasons. 1. It helps you track the centerline during takeoff. 2. In case of emergency the ILS is already tuned for the approach.
