Pinch yourself. Right now. PINCH! Yes, you’re alive. This isn’t a dream.

The last few weeks things have really come alive. For the first time you’ve seen the PMDG 737NGX is all its glory. Then came our recent videos that showed the extreme depth of the systems modeled, and the beauty and realism of the model itself.

Several days ago PMDG announced the release date for the 737NGX.

And now, they have announced the price.

Pinch yourself, because the PMDG 737NGX release is just around the corner, my friends!

Although I’d rather have you go to PMDG’s website and checkout what Robert has to say HERE, I’ll shoot you the details of what’s going on here:

  • The 737NGX will be $69.99 USD for the 800-900 for a limited time.
  • Later the 600-700 will be $24.99 USD.
  • Other packages will be released later for a TBA price.
  • The PMDG 737NGX will be updatable in the future, when/if PMDG implements newer technology in their sims.
  • PMDG support will be on hand to handle any support issues ASAP around release.
  • Other details to see in their post.
  • No animals were harmed in the process of making the PMDG 737NGX (ok, made that one up)

While we’re on the subject of pricing, and especially because there has been a lot of controversy in the past over the price PMDG placed on their products, I want to talk about AOA’s view on pricing in the flight simulation industry:

If you look around at your life you’ll find that you actually have many hobbies. Perhaps you like skiing, or fishing, or heading to the cinema on a Friday night with your lover. It could be that you really enjoy eating.

How long do these events last? How much are you paying for these events? How much value per dollar are you really getting from that fancy meal you just ate, or that newest action movie you just saw?

Take a look at the price tag of the new PMDG 737NGX.

$69.99 USD.

How many hours are you going to be flying this realistically modeled, incredibly capable and immersive hunk of tin?

The point we’re getting at here is that you are going to spend hundreds-and-hundreds of hours with this simulation from PMDG. Although $69.99 is a steal of a price for this simulation, it’s worth taking a real look at what kind of value these simulations bring to our lives.

I know full well that we are in a world where currencies are different and $69.99 may be your budget for the month in groceries. I know there are many retired simmers out there that are on a tight budget because of their retirement, and they are just as passionate as the young lads that don’t quite have a debit card yet and get their parents to buy these aircraft for them, splurging their months allowance.

It’s difficult to take the plunge on a product like this knowing that the cost is steep. But we simply want to add some perspective by saying that these simulations are a work of art and incredibly valuable.

Your PMDG 737NGX will keep giving back.

It’s not going away.

It doesn’t end like a movie, and it isn’t polished off like an expensive glob of ice cream.

Once in your hangar, there it remains, loyal and ready for your skillful hand to bring her back to life.

$69.99 is a meager entry price for such an amazing array of future experiences in what has become a beautiful world in FSX.

And next week, like many addons before, it’ll be available to you for an extremely reasonable price for how much it will keep giving back.

What are your thoughts on product pricing? Do you think this price from PMDG is fair?

  • Bruce

Thats a good price for what is after all a quality product

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

      Agreed!

      • Ian

Did you treat the very good iFly 737 with the same enthusiasm and support?

        • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

Not in the slightly. Because compared to the PMDG 737, the iFly 737 doesn’t come close in it’s systems modeling, fidelity, or even it’s visual prowess. It’s a no brainer for us. We’re teaching how to fly the airplane like it’s a real airplane. We don’t want to teach how to fly an airplane and be saying every few minutes, ‘oh, and it’s different in the real world. But this isn’t simulated, so we’ll do it this way’.

iFly did a great job with the market while PMDG was finishing up their NGX here, but PMDG now has the indisputable leader. We stand by that because we like the most realistic simulations.

          • FBI

How do you know what it’s like to fly a 737? Have you actually ever flown one for real or are you just going off what you have read in the manuals.

Good Morning Chris.. I think you hit the nail on the head with this post.. PMDG has set a really reasonable price for this add-on.. I can easily spend way more then $70 on dinner for my wife and I.

Now, since we are talking pricing.. Any word on the 737 Training? I seem to recall you mentioning that it will start the day of release. I had the pleasure of flying on a Westjet 737-700NG when flying to Barbados and I had a quick view of the cockpit and chat with the pilots.. Loved it.. I’m a Private Pilot myself (only 172′s) so any chance I get to be near an airplane, I’m all for it.

I’m really looking forward to both the PMDG 737 and your training. I also got to compliment Nick on his outstanding videos.. I know he did the video work for the MD-11 and that was outstanding.. I hope the 737 is equally outstanding. :)

PMDG has been unbelievably reasonable in pricing this masterpiece.
No one would have believed that they could get their hands on this NGX for under $80. You would have been laughed off of the forums for even suggesting it.
This should leave plenty of room for spending some money on training to learn how to take full advantage of this sim.
I would like to be able to fly it with realistic failures turned on and know how to realistically handle them.
That would make a whole new spectrum of fun in flying this aircraft.
Just the knowledge that it could fail would put more realism in the flight.
I’m sure that is on every pilots mind as their wheels fold under.
Looking forward to knowing more about the AoA training that will become available.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Great, I was expecting at least $90… And the fact the do not sell the whole package will give me some time to save :) .
PS. It’s my 10 day income btw, but.. It’s 737. And it’s PMDG.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

It’ll be totally worth it, man.

I would have liked PMDG to release all variants at the same time. Their addon is worth at least $199.00. Especially since it’s official Boeing .

    • Pete Richards

Well you wait months more for the variants before you buy it and I will go fly mine next week

Very fair. I was looking at the MD-11 pricing and didn’t expect it to be less than that given the newer tech. I guess the popularity of this beast will be higher, allowing for a lower price. This will help me afford the AoA training!

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

Yeah, PMDG has been really fair with it for sure.

  • James Gutteridge

Also, fantastic for us Aussies who currently have a strong AUD-USD !

  • angels10

$69 is a great price. Its like £46 by the time its converted to UK currency anyway which makes it even better. in the uk £46 will barely get you a couple of hours out on the town and a pizza. Instead you get a fully functional aircraft from a big name that you just know its going to be the best airliner addon for FSX ever.

  • Mpampiermole

    Good price indeed.

Aren’t you AOA guys advertising for the NGX a bit too much? Why would you comment on the price of a PMDG product?

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

It’s not that we’re marketing the PMDG 737, it’s that we’re actually doing training for it. So as soon as this sucker comes out, we get to show you guys the ropes with our video training. It’s a barrier (the price and purchase) to getting to our training. Although technically you can use other 737′s to go with our training, the PMDG 737NGX will be the most complete and fulfilling to use.

ive spent more for a firework cake that lasts 30 seconds. I call it a bargain.

  • wb2002

I watch with interest how people respond to this subject. Some may perhaps be associated with PMDG in some way and others are persuaded by what other simmers think and suggest (and PMDG knows this). Whether the price is reasonable, too high or bargain is a relative thing. The bottom line is what is it worth to you. For some, the price is no object. For others, sacrifices will have to be made. The bottom line still remains – “What is it worth to you”?

The 737NGX is for FSX only, and they will not be making one for FS9 (other than their old one). iFly from Flight1 has made one for FS9 recently that has got some great reviews, but it’s not modeled to the same fidelity as the NGX. Things to consider.
