Microsoft has officially announced a new Flight Simulator that they are building called Microsoft Flight.

Speculation has been growing since ACES Studios was closed last year. Developers and flight simmers have been scrambling to make sense of why Microsoft would discontinue such a successful and longstanding game.

So, what’s the catch?

Hopefully the catch is something big and beautiful!

Here is what I’d like to see in the new Simulator. Because details are few right now, these are only speculative:

  • Get rid of all the old code-

    Start new for today’s technology
  • Speaking of Technology-

I want it to run well on Multiple Cores and Multiple GPUs
  • Keep the DieHards in Mind-

I would like to see the simulator be really complex as we’ve seen
  • Fly Like the Real Thing-

Flight Simulator is so much different than real flight… I want better flight characteristics!
  • “Reinvent the Yoke”-

Don’t waste my time, Microsoft… Let’s see something really special here. Take some risks and make this awesome.
  • GO HERE FOR MORE- THE OFFICIAL MICROSOFT FLIGHT LINK

(Note the video is NOT real footage. It’s either CG (my guess) or in game footage!)

What would you like to see in the new simulator?

    • Twopots

My support for free software is this; they will be around developing long after the commercial equivalents are dead and gone. Case in point MS FS X. They’re no longer supporting it or developing it.
If you have to go commercial, buy X-Plane. It’s fidelity is fantastic. If you want to invest in a future that will endure, grow and mature, then I suggest you go to FlightGear in droves!

    • Vineet

I want it to be faster, emergency calls to atc, their response, priority handling, passenger cabins and passenger and pilot bodies if possible.Alse we must be able to fly like a passenger from one part of world to the other.

    • Grahame Robinson

I would like to see compatabilty with aircraft add-ons currently in use for FSX. Unlike the switch from 2004 to FSX , where a lot of the add-on did not have a patch to work on FSX.

The added expense of re stocking aircraft could make the new version unattractive

    • MIKE GREENAWAY

I would like it to be more realistic in flight characteristics with Talk and Answere ATC (now that Would be nice) and perhaps get Coser to the Beta stage at the moment it’s all pie in the sky.
At 63 years old I don’t think I would bother getting this one. I have stuck with MFS since the days of MFS 5 (wich I still have) and seen a lot of good changes over the years
I wish all the MFS people the best of luck with this Project
I wish I was starting out again With All the beutifull Aircraft and Scenery going around And Training like Chris’s AOA
What will it be like 10 years time Ummm !!!.
      Cheers sameeg :)

You don’t have to start over. just continue on. I am a 76 yr. old single engine Cat. Pilot. I am training on PMDG747-400 and learning instrument at the same time. Keeps my mind working and gives me a sense of accomplishment. My Bucket list.
        You can do it too!

Personally, I would like to see many more types of aircraft built into the game, such as a 767-300ER, 777-300ER, A330, A340, A350 (Being released this year so it’s relevant)and the A380. It would be nice to have more genuine cockpits too. I would also like the opportunity to have real aircraft sounds – not the cheaps ones they currently have on FSX. I want them to have better graphics (Obviously they are attempting to do this, but one of their current teaser videos looked like FSX). It would be nice to declare emergencies with the ATC and have firetrucks at the ready and the ability to either call “Pan Pan Pan” or “Maday Maday Maday”. It would be an absolute awesome feature if they could add in passenger sounds and how they react to the flight, just like FsPassengers (FSX addon). The opprtunity to have in-flight entertainment would be good, with a option to have Cockpit & Cabin crew voices and to have the plane the camera shake when in turbulce, take off, or landing or when altering speed. Having autoland features and a better sense of coordination and alertness with the ATC, just like real life. Getting the opportunity to have a First Officer to handle flaps, fear, checklists and flight assistance. And even allowing you to teach other AI pilots. Promotions, demotions and pilot/crew ranking would be a nice bonus. The good feeling of working your way up in a difficult career! Overall, I would just like maximum use of built-in material and minimal use of installing addons to enhance the game, as this can really affect player gameplay and cause problems to players’ computers while installing these. It would be much easier and efficient if it is already installed with their own technology or the use of third party technology. I really wouldn’t mind how much the game cost, I just personally believe these would be nice features.

If there is a shuttle expansion pack, as there is with FSX, the only thing is, it is pretty useless unless there is a space scenery pack rather than just orbital, such as moon landing or whatever.

    • Rich144

what is going to happen to the third party addons?
are they going to work in the new Fight?

    • colin

see this is the problem, everyone want it customized to EXACTLY what they want. (including myself)unfortunately i dont think its gonna happen. the ms flight website barely has anything on it, not even a release date,or system specs. NOTHING. i think there struggling to stay afloat, so there trying something radialy different. lets just hope they dont ruin our beloved FLIGHT SIMULATOR!

    • CaptainChuck

I would like a Cessna 182 that flies like my own Skylane.

    • Pete W

I would like to see “Fight” incorporate touchscreen technology for the operation of controls, switches, levers, trim wheels etc.

    • Heiderichard

I would like to know when the Microsoft flight is realy coming out, also i would to beta test it. Please let me know, email me @ heiderichard@msn.com

Would like a 3-screen split option, where the two side screens would be you side view or peripheral vision, so important in real flight.

    • Ceseixas

      What about a 3D scenery?

      • Harrisondavid123

FSX runs well in 3D especially with add on scenery like VFR Real Sceneria Snowdonia (free demo) So realisitic feel queasy when turning!!

    • Patrik Jäghammar

      PMDG-style default aircrafts :p
and a better ATC becuase the fsx atc sucks :(

    • Racoco

perhaps a system of passengers, cargo

    • Shijir

are there have clouds shadow in Microsoft Flight?

    • Raunaq Shah

im an mfs x lover but
1)the colour of all the objects-buildings/aircrafts/sky etc is so plain and dull..makes it look like cartoons..
2)the taxiways and runways need to bump more like real

      • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

        Agreed!

    • Dale J F

what would be great as well, is if the traffic and cars (including airport vehicles) moved more realistically on the ground. this is because i had a piper cub yesterday that was turning in massive arcs on the ground, but this is rare.
i also wish the hills and mountains was more accurate to the real world locations, st barths for example.

    • Brian Ordoan

I agree, I would like to see the taxiways become more realistic as well as the gates and the airport. More features like pushback and cold start up would also be awesome!!!

As a great lover of MFSX, I would love if microsoft could review some of its design in the game, like building textures, airports realistic, great view of whats happening in the cabin, passegers entering the airplanes, etc.. Atleast we can see people in the game!! Even though I’ll have to liberate 30GB on my hardisk just to install the game, i’m ok with it.. To make it more Interesting,if it is possible to create a ” Career Mode”.. like, having some money in hands, buy aircraft, fly to different countries to earn money, paying airport facilities, fuel, … And last thing, add Boeing 787 dreamliner, Airbus A380 in the game itself.. Instead of downloading seperately1
Thank you for listening to our recommendation, its a pleasure for us to buy your product..

Nice job, keep on with the good work.
      Aubrey.

I hope when microsoft flight is released, that producers like pmdg quickly make their software compatible with it.
one thing i dont like about fsx is that the landscape is repetitive, as can be seen at high altitudes. i wish they could do something similar to what the ordinance survey map people do. that is take pictures of the real ground (like google earth) and, using special software, overlay scenery such as trees and houses etc.
speaking of trees and houses. i wish they make the scenery more accurate to the climate of an area. i mean i have seen tudor styled houses and and pine trees in some where like southern india or the caribbean.

    • Unclejimjam

what about something that wont need your whole computer to play it on msfx did not work on my last pc

    • Joe124554

Better F in Frame Rates i have an I7 965 pro PC 12gig ram still slow as hell

    • Rsf06152004

rewards for good landings, air;ine pilot upgrades

    • http://www.webspawner.com/users/historyofflight/index.html flight simulator controller

Flying is very expensive. This simulation software is a much cheaper alternative for both the aviation trainer and the student pilot. Even one hour in the hour will cost your more than most good computer software which prevents many from learning a skill they have dreamed of for years. Flight schools take advantage of this.

    • Gcog

Get away from the Key board commands as much as posible. I don’t want to be hitting 4 different keys just to look somewhere. Most of us are going to actual controls, Saitek – Flight Solutions ect. hardware. We want our Sim’s to be like the real Cockpit, not a Keyboard to hammer away on and a bunch of codes to remember.
      .

    • Gcog

Control srnsitivity. On landing corrections, the runway swings left and right so far I can never tell if my correction is enough or too little. No real plane flies like that. This make practicing landings a greater challenge the real flight and NO FUN.

    • Juan Pablo Borrero

And Microsoft have managed to make a game worse than FSX, it only has Hawaii and it’s a free download; http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/#press-takes_to_skies

      • Stefan

        Hmmm… Note sure att all..
The DEMO will be availble and only cover Hawaii..
The Open Beta is not even open yet so not so many knows much about it so far…
There will be plenty of time to cut MS and Flight down but we’er not realy there yet.
        :/

    • Madani321

      can you play online

    • Austincoulter33

      i want to see a damn f22!!!!

    • Glenche

I would like to see motion control platform data be sent the same way FSX does.
It allows people who have put alot of effort into buolding motion platforms continue to reap benefits of their hard work and support for the Micrsoftwae sim.

    • Pachecotristan96

I want to have realistic running features. As in engines don’t always start up the same, or run at full efficiency. Hypoxia would be a great effect too.

    • Hans Graham

It is of much importance that the new FLIGHT be comparable with the reality of modern real fliight simulators. This translates to inside cockpit flying, single, multiple engine flying; with all the malfuntions which can occur – by choice. Ideally, disk 1 would provide for training to private pilot level including gliding, disk 2 training to similar commercial pilot level. Disk 3 would provide advanced training on International Jet Airliners plus military aircraft including helicopters and other advanced flight simuation.
I liked the award program concept, except today, students should be encouraged to stay with one diisck until they obtain their ‘Wings” as much as possible in line with real pilot training.

    • Mark

Like to see accurate real world scenery or at least better than it has been in the past. Can’t they partner up with google earth to achieve this?

      • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

Microsoft isn’t that great at anything in sim. They’re trying to do everything now. They’ll never beat the likes of ORBX.

    • Astrotech007

Realistic looking clouds that do not disappear before you fly through them. Cloud shadows that fall on the aircraft . Realistic night sky with stars calculated for latitude, longitude, time of day. Same for sun and moon.

      Thanks

From what I can tell thus far is that it’ll never be the same as FS9 or FSX. I think that MS is making it more of a game than a simulator. I’m still skeptical about it being a simulator. The only aircraft that might fly as it would in FSX is the Maule, which won’t be included in the free starter package that they have out. Also, you’ll have to PURCHASE EACH scenery package FOR A FEE. That really drives my hopes down. It’s like having FSX release in the demo formatt and you have to pay to fly to other airports that are not covered in the demo. I would rather pay for a whole world in a somewhat acceptable scenery rather than having to pay for each additional scenery. I’m just saying my opinion on Flight. If MS decide that they’ll make it the whole world and not just Hawaii, then I might considering purchasing it. For now, I’ll stick with FSX and its PMDG, Level-D, and QualityWing planes that I have installed. With these, I’ll never get bored.

    • Gamerz

Forget all this talk. When wil the game be relased?

      • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Thomas Crowell

Flight will be released on February 29th.

    • Heliguy15

lots of motorways cars trucks helicopters where u can in or out of the helicopter or car or planes more interaction lots of rescue missions and collecting people from helipads great graphics i3 processers and 6gb laptops and also for x box if possable

Cool pay-ware ad-ons! Real weather, real airport scenery’s, airport service! A better ATC and up to date NAV-aids with an in-game (scrolling GPS-Map, flight planner), FMC, ACARS, TCAS, WXRadar’s. An route weather, real GP, APU, Bleed-Air, Start-Up sounds, procedure lists for all types of planes. Fully operational, realistic, 2D & 3D panels and gauges. Operational INS, windscreen wipers, windows, doors, cargo-doors, RAMAir, prop adjustments, fuel mixture, instruments. Airport traffic and country-realistic AI-planes. Good aerodynamics and helicopters, missions, flight adventures (randomized), Virtual-Airline game options.
Multy-player via FSHost and other server systems. Inflight chat with other players. Online Captain-Copilot options, sharing one-plane (specially the more advanced), rescue and passenger and cargo missions. Integration possibility’s for FSA, FSPassengers or other VA-possibility’s.
Easy programing/software connections to build your own multiple screen cockpit with controls and gauges.
Would be nice to read real aircraft cockpit manuals and FMC guides and find out it matches the FS-aircraft types, like most (payware models do in FS9, 75 to 80%) lets make it 95%.

All pictures are MFSimulator based! :-)

Personally it shocked me like one of reviewers said it’s a waste of time really sucks I mean I have spend hundreds of dollars on improving my FSX and now they are giving me the choice of to aircrafts and one island NO It’s no us real us it gets
      Sincerely Paul

    • REALLY ??

What is Microsoft Flight ??? This is only an arcade game !! What happened here ?? Is the culmination of nearly 25 years of the landmark Flight Simulator franchise been just a waste of time ? For 2012 Microsoft brings out an arcade game instead of a serious Flight Simulator, WHAT A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT !!!

    • Adrien1769

      So you get one plane?
thats so freakin dumb i mean what the hell
what a POS if its gonna be free gimme more planes Dammit!

    • Sevv

The demo is not proving mutch at all! How come, Microsoft let it’s self slip down hill, with Flightsimulator! It’s a pitty if this would be it …..

Then I will stick to my old one for years to come!
      :-)

    • macomputersuck

I tried the demo. It sucks because you only get one plane and almost no places just the main island in Hawaii. It is sort of half way in between a simulator and a game. The graphics are worse than FSX. Microsoft should stick to making flight SIMULATORS because they have been doing that since the 1980′s.

    • Tatt

      Bombing!

very very boring only 2 boring planes good job microsoft for firing the people who created the fsx and know your hopless people dont know wat to do without them
