One thing we as an international team have learned here at Angle of Attack is that no matter where you fly, it’s still just an magical, and still just as addicting.

Nick has been flying quite a bit recently, getting a lot of time in a pretty Cessna Cardinal 177 at his local airfield. Of course, nothing compares to actually seeing this, so we’ve uploaded the video above to show off a bit of what it’s like flying in the UK.

Superb. Have done this virtually many times, great to see the real thing.

    • Bruce

Nice one Nick. People have been asking when you are going to come back & join in on the Group Flights? Seems like someone misses you & your smoking Spit.

      • bruce

Oooops, sorry Wayne comment was directed to Nick but I do agree with your comments

I will do when I get my FSX comp back up and running, it’s been too long!

  • Anthnoy

Have you ever done a Cross Country in Ireland? You would be most welcome. BTW, Horizon Simulations’ Generation X VFR UK scenery is superb for FSX.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Nick Collett

I have indeed, Newtownards to Enniskillen. I wanted to do Londonderry too, but never had the guts to go that far north. I didn’t feel I had enough experience at the time.

We also wanted to fly into Aldergrove, but there was a huuuuge cb sitting on top of it so we ended up just doing a local flight over Strangford Lough instead.

  • Stevesk

Great to see some UK cross country flying, thanks!

  • Ronan17

oh! I enjoyed that, I really enjoyed that, now I`m going to try that in FSX, Bet nick got better FPS though lol,…..thanks nick.

  • Hubinsc

Well, no so much. Audio was hard for me to follow and the video fast fwds were disorienting.

  • Zinny

    Fantastic Nick
Nick you have a way to make a flight fun and instructional at the same time.
Loved the humor ,we need to see more of that, were getting too serious here in the Americas.
    Great job Nick

      Many more on the way!

  • Erik Kuppens

    Nice video.
something to fly in FSX with Generation X VFR UK scenery in a Carenado Centurion.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Nick Collett

Biggin Hill south east of London, to Sandown on the Isle of Wight. EGKB > EGHN

  • “BigdBlue”, Phil Raulston

Great video Nick. Thanks for the ride.

  • Flyingsub

You can see my house from here (minute 6.0). A great video of an area I’ve flown in many times, themost fun was racing a powerboat near Selsey in a R22.

  • Vincent lherbier

I would love to do something like that but I do not have a license to fly and do not know any one that does. One day maybe.

  • Tony Baldo

Nick, such a wonderful video. Thank you for that! My heart shot up into my throat when you flew over Goodwood, as I’ve (as a passenger) flown a pleasure flight from Goodwood, over Portsmouth, over to the Isle of Wight and back over Chichester (where my friends live) into Goodwood, in similar weather to what you had on your flight..simply beautiful. It was a treat to see the Goodwood Motor Circuit around its Aerodrome, with the St. Mary’s and Lavant corners of the motor circuit clearly in view. I’m a Goodwood Road Racing Club member (despite being American), and have raced (non-sanctioned) on the circuit before. Thanks again !!!!

Goodwood is a great airfield, my checkout on the Cardinal included a few circuits and a full stop landing there. Very cool landing over cars racing on the track! Wonderful atmosphere there.

  • bruce

Nick, nice video. You just know what’s coming next, porridge bowl in hand, can we have some more please?

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Nick Collett

More videos on the way, but you won’t catch me barrel rolling it while pouring iced tea like Bob Hoover did in his Shrike! It’d probably get pretty messy….

  • James Crowther

Great video :) I especially liked the G force demonstration with the pen! Where were you flying out of? ..and I agree with Bruce, I’d love to see more of this in the future.

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Nick Collett

Hi James, we’re based at Biggin Hill. This flight was from Biggin Hill to Sandown on the Isle of Wight. I flew the return leg a few days later following some repairs to the engine.

  • Herman Nienhuis

Nice video, thanks Nick. Until the end I kept on hoping to get a glimps of your face, so I could finally “meet” my 737-instructor ;-)

  • dougc

My system cant play the video. I get a message to say it wants Adobe Flash. When I try to update my current version, i get a message to say I already have the latest version? What gives??

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

This shouldn’t want to play flash at all. Try with a different browser, especially if you’re using IE.

  • Anthnoy

Couldn’t quite hear the tip on visually positioning the strut on the downwind (as a guide). I’m doing my training(PPL) on the C172 in Ireland at the moment

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Nick Collett

Whereabouts are you flying in Ireland? I have about 10 hours logged out of Newtownards (Northern Ireland) in UFC’s C172 NAV III aircraft, beautiful scenery!

  • Jordan Forrest

Nice. I’m a member of Alouette, as I believe you are too. Not quite as economic as the 172 I bet – how much does it set you back to fly the 177?

Might even see you at the field one of these days!

    • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Nick Collett

Actually it’s not bad – 135kts at 10.5 gph, £125 per tacho hour. The downside is the £105 per month membership, but it’s worth it to be able to fly something this special.

And yep I’m a member of Alouette – I have a few hours logged in both AK and JO. Nice aircraft! We’re based in the hangar just north of the clubhouse. We’ll be moving outside in the new year though unfortunately, probably putting a couple of the aircraft in the free spaces beside Alouette.

Hoping to fly sometime this week, I’d like to get Rochester, Redhill and Fairoaks in in one day if possible. Maybe a little ambitious but probably doable!

  • Eric

Can’ t view it on my IPad.. I’ll try later on the laptop. Is it my ipad, or is the format not readable on an IPAd?

    Greetings,
    Eric

    • Eric

I must have done something wrong, it works fine on an IPad.
      Eric

      • http://www.flyaoamedia.com Chris Palmer

Yeah, all of our current stuff should be compatible with the iPad.

  • G7usl

Nice coloured aircraft, I didn’t notice the scratches lol
